CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I. NAME AND PURPOSE

SECTION I.

This organization shall be known as "The Ladies' Altar Sodality of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Mobile, Alabama."

SECTION II.

The purpose of the Sodality shall be:

a) To unite, support, and aid the social and spiritual needs of its members, the ladies of our parish.

b) To provide support to our diocese, parish, and our pastor.

c) To be visible examples of our good works and commitment to our parish and pastor.

d) To expand spiritual growth and friendship with one another.

ARTICLE II. SPIRITUAL BENEFITS

SECTION I.

Mass shall be offered on the moming of our quarterly meetings, normally the second Sunday of the month, for all living and deceased members of the Sodality.

SECTION II.

On the occasion of the death of a member, a special Mass shall be requested by the President.

ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP

SECTION I.

All lady parishioners of St. Catherine of Siena Church are members of the Ladies' Altar Sodality, all ages, all walks of life, and all seasons of life: women in young, middle, and advanced years; single, married, widowed ladies; young mothers, mothers of teens, empty-nesters, grandmothers; and women who work inside and outside the home.

Active Member:

Anyone may attend the Altar Sodality meetings and work on said projects of the Sodality.

Voting Member:

One who has paid membership dues and has been an active member for two months. A member in good standing is an active and voting member.

BY-LAWS

ARTICLE I. OFFICERS AND ELECTIONS

SECTION I.

The Officers of this Organization shall be:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

SECTION II.

All officers shall be elected for a term of two years (lUnning June to March), but may not hold the same office for more than two (2) consecutive terms.

SECTION III.

A Nominating Committee shall be selected by the President at the September meeting consisting of three (3) members at large.

SECTION IV.

The Nominating Committee will present a slate of nominees, who have given their consent, at the December Meeting to be voted on in March.

ARTICLE II. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

SECTION I.

Officers shall be elected at the regular meeting in March of election year (even years) from names presented by the Nominating Committee and by nomination from the floor. The officers

elected shall be installed and assume duties and responsibilities of their office, at the regular meeting in June.

SECTION II.

Nomination of persons who are not present is not permissible without their consent.

SECTION III.

A vacancy occurring in any office shall be filled at the next regular meeting. The votes shall be by secret ballot with nominations to be made from the floor.

ARTICLE III. MEETINGS

SECTION I.

The Sodality normally meets quarterly on the second Sunday of that month.

SECTION II.

Special meetings may be called by the President. Notice of such meetings to be given to members by the Communication Committee.

SECTION III.

A quarum shall consist of at least 15 members.

SECTION IV.

Meetings will normally last one hour.

ARTCLE IV. DUES

SECTION I.

All members pay $15.00 a year.

SECTION II.

Dues are due and should be paid at the March meeting for the current year.

SECTION III.

A reminder shall be placed in the church bulletin by the Treasurer.

ARTICLE V. COMMITTEES

SECTION I.

There shall be such standing and special committees, approved by the officers and Pastor, as are required for the proper functioning of the Sodality and the accomplishment of its

objects.

SECTION II.

Chainnen of standing and special committees shall be appointed by the President with the approval of the officers and the Pastor.

SECTION III.

Committee Chairmen are to report at each business meeting and if unable to be at the meeting, their reports are to be turned in to the Secretary the day before the meeting. This is

important in order to keep the minutes to date.

SECTION IV.

Special Committees:

I) It shall consist of any given number appointed by the President.

2) It shall be the duty of this Committee to initiate and conclude the business assigned to it, in a way and at the time indicated by the President.

3) When the object of this Committee has been fulfilled, its functions shall cease.

ARTICLE VI. DUTIES OF OFFICERS

SECTION I.

President
  1. It shall be the duty of the President to prepare agenda and preside at all regular and special meetings. She is an ex-officio member of all committees.She shall set up a special committee as the occasion demands to accomplish determined objectives.
    1. To coordinate with Vice-President set up of hall and details of quarterly and other meetings.
    2. To order flowers for the quarterly Mass.
    3. To ensure Sodality banner and medals are available at quarterly Mass.
  2. To coordinate with Secretary, notice of events sponsored by the Sodality.
  3. To be "point man" for requests from Parish
    1. May crowning flowers
    2. Fish Fry
    3. Pot luck / Parish annual dinners
    4. Receptions
      • Confirmation
      • First Holy Communion
      • Ordination
      • Anniversaries / Retirements
      • Christ the King medalists
  4. To be the "point man" for requests from ACCWTo act as the official Spokeswomen for all the ladies of the Parish in all Archdiocesan and Deanery activities of the Council of Catholic Women.
    1. Food receptions
    2. 2B gifts
    3. Burse Club
    4. Mother's Day flowers
    5. St. Patrick's Day shamrocks
    6. Seminarian Hospitality
    7. Respect Life Sunday
  5. To seek to enlist new members for the Sodality from the new families that move into the Parish.
  6. To keep the members informed of any sick members so that they may be visited and / or prayer may be offered.
  7. On occasion of a members' death, to request a Mass for repose of the deceased soul.
  8. To be present at all events whenever possible.

SECTION II.

Vice-President
  1. It shall be the duty of the Vice-President to undertake all the above duties in the absence of the President and to assist her in fulfilling them.
  2. To be responsible for set-up of hall for quarterly meetings no later than the Saturday prior to.
    1. Arrange with parish office set up of tables and chairs.
    2. Secure brunch / luncheon catering.
    3. Ensure sufficient paper products on hand.
    4. Provide door prizes for quarterly meetings.
  3. To maintain phone tree as communication to membership
    1. Initiate phone tree relaying pertinent information regarding meetings or other necessary news.
    2. Share expected attendance with executive committee for planning purposes.
  4. To be present at all events whenever possible.

SECTION III.

SECRETARY
  1. It shall be the duty of the Secretary to record the minutes of each meeting and to read them at the succeeding meeting.
  2. To maintain binder(s) containing all minutes.
  3. To have meetings notice placed in the Church bulletin.
  4. To receive, report, and respond to correspondence as received to the Sodality.
  5. To be present at all events whenever possible.

SECTION IV.

TREASURER
  1. It shall be the duty of the Secretary to record the minutes of each meeting and to read them at the succeeding meeting.
  2. To maintain binder(s) containing all minutes.
  3. To have meetings notice placed in the Church bulletin.
  4. To receive, report, and respond to correspondence as received to the Sodality.
  5. To be present at all events whenever possible.

Members should be brief in their comments so that the meeting will not be unduly prolonged. 

Regular meetings should not last more than one hour.

 

The Constitution and Bylaws of the St. Catherine of Siena Ladies' Altar Sodality were approved at its Spring Quarterly Meeting on March, 08, 2015.
